I wrote a play that NOONE knew about because I flaked on the promotional side. So, it’s no surprise that you probably weren’t there. However, a lot of people in Chicago were there, and a lot of people really liked it. Next time a play happens, I’ll let you know. However, you will probably not know that I wrote it, because I’m officially taking on the pseudonym “Karl Malone”. If you know any directors named John Stockton, please send them my way. We’ll probably make a good team.

A few summers ago, my family went on vacation to upstate New York. We grabbed our keys at a cozy Lincoln Log-style cabin that was snuggled nicely between a lake and a forest, then headed towards our home for the next week. I remember that I was sitting in the back watching a Sean Connery as James Bond film, and was too engaged to care about where we were going. We eventually arrived at our new digs, and I rushed inside. It turns out that we had rented out a “creepy-ass woman whose house children refuse to go near during halloween because she kills people and makes coats out of their skin” type place. Recognizing a perfect opportunity to be dramatic, I immediately went downstairs and quickly turned on Idioteque - easily one of the most unnerving songs that a person could hear in a terrifying house. My mom walked in the house and lost her shit. It was totally awesome and impressively synaesthetic.

This story is completely irrelevant except for the fact that I saw the Knife’s new Opera Tomorrow, In a Year in Dresden. It’s pretty on par with Idioteque for being terrifying and awesome simultaneously. I wrote about the experience for the LA based web-magazine, CURATED.
